A destructive fungal virus spreads through the banana plantations in several countries and there are completely destroyed crops. The Netherlands has stated that too much plantations around the world are affected by this fungus.
This fungus apparently entered through the vascular system of the plant and it stops the supply of water from the soil and at the end the plant fades out. This infection mainly affects the Cavendish bananas, and mainly due to monoculture.
This scenario is reminiscent of the crisis that occurred in the 1800, when were affected plantations in Australia. It was named as the worst agricultural disasters in the history.
The researchers estimate that the fungus destroyed even 100,000 hectares and looks to expand further due to the infected plant material, land, machinery or tools, shoes or even bad sewer.
